Did you ever hate a job?

Low points in life! What a challenge.
Keep the faith!!

Low points in life! What a challenge.

To be honest, I don’t think I ever hated a job, at least not while I was there. Hate is a strong word and if I really hated it I would quit.

Now, with that said, I have hated a lot of things about a job. Sometimes the company’s policies suck some people may be horrible, or a combination of both.

To be fair, I put up with some shitty jobs for a long time. You know why? Because it paid well or the benefits were good or I had no other option. It’s funny when you hear people say to just quit. Unfortunately I have bills to pay and a wife that really does care. If I don’t have a backup plan, it’s not going to be a rash decision.

I’ve always admired people that would quit on the spot, at least at the moment they do it I admire them. Then I think it through and realize it was an emotional and stupid decision. Did they have a backup plan? Do they have money stashed away? Are they supporting anyone or have child support? These are all the questions I have asked myself years ago, even after I was divorced I had to pay child support. It’s not like my ex would let it slide if I stopped because I was too proud to work somewhere. Even if I quit I would need a lawyer to get it lowered, and they’re not cheap.

So if someone tells you to just quit, make sure you have a plan. Backup plans are critical. Bloody hell not to be prepared is the worst thing you can let happen.

I try to be prepared. I am in a spot now where my kids are grown and on their own, college is behind them and me. I no longer pay my ex-wife anything, after about 15 years of doing so. My wife and I are on the same page, saving over a year’s salary because layoffs are all too common and happening regularly where I work.

When you get older, these things are so much easier to do. When I was young I got laid off once and my company totally screwed me. It was awful. After doing everything they asked me to do with great success, they felt they didn’t need me and bailed on our contract. I had to take them to court to get my past expense money. Luckily, I won and got it, but that was about 10 months later.

I was able to get another job, but the pay cut was huge. Then I found out my wife was leaving me for someone else. She raked me for child support which I could barely afford. I am not complaining here, I am only telling you that this was a low point in my life.

However, I survived. I got back on my feet and climbed my way back up to a good paying job with benefits. It took years, but I did it. Today, I feel like it made me stronger, even though I’m over it. Don’t get me wrong, if I think about it too much I feel the bitter sting of the time when everything came crashing down. Then I look around and see how far I came, again.

My faith brought me back. Not just faith in GOD but faith in myself. You need to believe you can do it. You may need motivational tapes or videos or a good friend, but you have to believe you can do it and work towards that goal. Giving up any bad habits, saving all the money you can, and put your needs, bills, and family first. That is a lot for you to handle, but it can be done.

If this happens to you, keep the faith. It’s OK to get angry, sad, and angry again. You need to get it out of your system. That’s OK. Just remember to get back on track and work towards your future.

Hang in there, this too shall pass and things will get better, if you believe it will.
