Think like Forrest Gump and do the work!

While the goal may look good, the work may suck!

I don’t know about you, but I loved Forrest Gump. That movie was so creative and, (to me), a true work of art. Tom Hanks did an outstanding job acting like a somewhat dimwitted guy who did amazing things throughout life. All from humble beginnings.

While the movie is ridiculously far-fetched, I love it. It gets me thinking, “if this guy can do it, so can I”. I know, it’s only a fictional character, but Forrest is able to focus on one thing and make it happen. Of course, in the movie he has a lot of luck.

However, he often focuses on one thing until it’s complete. While we can’t do that in real life, we could stick with a goal to see it through. Sounds easy, right?

Well, let’s look at life.

  • We go on diets but they’re hard and our lifestyle won’t accommodate it. We found more excuses to avoid it once it becomes work.
  • We say we’re going to exercise, yet it’s so hard to get to the gym or even just take a walk every day. More excuses to get out of it than to do it.
  • We have a project but wait until the final days to finish it.

My point is, as humans, we spend more time making excuses and procrastinating about things that we think are hard.

Maybe we just want to do what we want to do.

To me, that’s what set Forrest apart, he didn’t know what was hard, easy, or impossible. He just saw a task and worked through it. Black and white with little gray.

Why can’t we do that today? Because there is so much gray area. However, if we can keep moving ahead and make minor pivots, things work out. We’ll be OK as long as we live, right?

Of course, because most problems are not as bad as we think. Most goals are not as hard as we think. For some reason we make things harder than they are.

Do you know why?

Because it’s work and we don’t really want to do it, do we?

If we set a goal and we lose interest, then it wasn’t really something we wanted.

I find sometimes I like the idea of being something. To put it in something you may relate to, think of being a star! It could be a music star, actor, or someone famous. Maybe even politicians. We all wanted to do something great or be famous.

It looks great until it comes time to do the work. The work is where we lose interest, get lazy, or realize we’re not committed.

If you want to be a rockstar, you have to practice, do cheap gigs, live on the road, and keep trying. Even then you could fail.

To be an actor,  you have to practice, take a lot of acting gigs for free, try to move to where the work is, and commit. Even then you could fail.

To be a politician you need to work your way up, give up your life and your dignity, and even then you could fail.

My point is, it’s easy to look at the ones who made it. What you’re missing is all the ones who failed trying. It’s not always their fault. They may have had bad luck or missed their break or let that big opportunity pass them by only to see it in hindsight.

So, if you really want to do something, I hope you like the work to get there because that may be all you have. The work should be your reward. I am learning that as I get older. You should enjoy the work so you never lose motivation. Then you are motivated in the actions, not just holding on to the end result.

Remember, think like Forrest Gump and do the work!

In other words:

“Life is like a box of chocolates,” Forrest Gump famously said, “you never know what you’re gonna get.” This line encapsulates the essence of life’s unpredictability and the beauty of embracing every moment with a sense of wonder and determination. Just like Forrest, who with his simple wisdom, navigated through life’s complexities with an unwavering spirit, we too can find our path to success and fulfillment.

Imagine if we approached life with Forrest’s mindset. What if we embraced every task, no matter how daunting, with the innocence and tenacity of someone who doesn’t recognize the concept of ‘impossible’? Forrest didn’t just run; he sprinted through life’s challenges, turning each obstacle into a stepping stone towards an extraordinary destiny.

Now, let’s infuse our blog with the same infectious enthusiasm and relentless optimism that Forrest Gump displayed. Let’s rewrite our narrative with a dash of his adventurous spirit:

“Embrace the Gump Philosophy: Unleash Your Potential!”

Are you ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and relentless pursuit of your dreams? Let’s channel our inner Forrest Gump and tackle life head-on! From the whimsical to the wondrous, Forrest’s adventures remind us that with a heart full of courage and a dash of luck, anything is possible.

So, lace up your sneakers and set your sights on the horizon. Whether it’s starting a new fitness regimen or tackling a daunting project, approach it with the belief that you’ll see it through to the end. Remember, it’s not about the speed; it’s about the persistence. It’s about the sheer will to keep going when everything else tells you to stop.

And when you find yourself facing the inevitable hurdles, think of Forrest. He didn’t let the complexity of life deter him. He saw life in black and white, where tasks were simply tasks, waiting to be accomplished. Let’s strip away the gray areas that cloud our judgment and reclaim the clarity that propels us forward.

In the end, it’s not about the grandeur of our achievements, but the journey we undertake to reach them. It’s about the stories we create, the lives we touch, and the legacy we leave behind. So, take a leaf out of Forrest’s book: do the work, savor the journey, and who knows? You might just find yourself achieving more than you ever imagined.

Let’s not wait for life to hand us the perfect opportunity. Let’s create it, with every step we take, just like Forrest did. After all, isn’t life all about the pursuit of happiness, one determined stride at a time?

Now, that’s a blog that not only inspires but also ignites the unstoppable force within each of us. Let’s not just dream; let’s do, with the spirit of Forrest Gump guiding us every step of the way. “Run, reader, run!” towards your goals, and watch the magic unfold.
