Invest in yourself! Wisdom.

One thing I learned  later in life is that we should always be learning. Whether it’s to improve our job, learn a new hobby, or even change careers. Maybe it’s just something you’re interested in.

When I was younger, I focused on work and my career. Not a bad decision but it tends to limit you to nothing but knowledge about work. As I got older I started reading and listening to books. Not just non-fiction, but also fiction, novels, and fun reads. I really enjoy reading as much as I can to learn something new.

We should always be learning, the easiest way to do that is to grab a book. You can find free PDFs just by asking Google or you can go to the library. Most libraries have online systems so that you can borrow audio and digital books online. My library system in York County, Pa, has that option and I use it from time to time. Mostly I read on Kindle and sometimes even buy real books to read at home. I also have Audible which I think is great.

Making time for reading has been a challenge, but I am older now and the kids are out of the house so it’s way easier. With Netflix and Prime as distractions it’s easy to forget to read anything. Video is easy, fun, and entertaining, but not always enlightening.

As I read more articles, I realize that you have to be a skeptic. Whilethey are telling you a message, they may be selling you something you don’t want or promoting a company by sharing the facts to favor someone specific. Some tech papers are actually advertisements for someone. All I am saying is, when reading magazines keep in mind who the author is and who sponsored it so  you understand the message.

As you read more and take in more useful information, then you begin to learn how others think. It pays to have an open mind. Even novels can be a learning experience. While the story may be from someone’s imagination, the background story and history lesson may give you an idea of what times were like back then. Even sci-fi stories can open up your imagination to what’s possible.

All I can ask you is to keep on learning what you can when you can. A model for me was Theodore Roosevelt because that guy was always reading. He wasn’t afraid to read the same book over and over again. Some books need to be read like that so that you learn new lessons. Sometimes when you get older and have more life experiences you pull a new message out of an older book. Books are fun and helpful.

Keep educating yourself so that you see the world through wise eyes. Your mind needs to be fed new information and viewpoints so that your wisdom grows.

Keep learning!
