Could AI be your new best friend?

AI has incredible potential, but its impact can be both positive and negative. The idea of AI partners is becoming more real, especially among young people influenced by social media. As online relationships become more common, there’s a growing concern about potential scams and exploitation, posing serious social and financial risks

I have been researching AI quite a bit. I have been taking courses in ChatGPT because I want to learn what is possible. For one thing, almost anything will be possible. It’s all up to the programmer and how the AI models are trained.

It can be good or bad.

I ask the question about having an AI best friend because I think this will happen. In fact, how many people worldwide have online girlfriends that may not be real? I would bet it’s more than you know. This is the real thing. In Asia it’s catching on.

Why? Why would people want an AI girlfriend or boyfriend? Did you ever date a real person? It’s hard.

We all like what we like, and we want to share that with a significant other. Unfortunately, they like what they like and it may not be what you like.

The short of it is, people got lazy and demanding. The demand to have someone like what they like in a short period of time.

If you think this isn’t true, look at social media. Don’t we look at how other people live before we try anything on our own? Sure, it’s a small percentage, mostly younger people.

Let’s look at the numbers:

  • 25% of all Tik Tok users are aged 10 to 19 years old.
  • 47.4% of Tik Tok users are under 30 years old.
  • The total number of Tik Tok users is 834 million.

Think about how many people not only get on this thing but rely on it for news, advice, and to keep in touch with friends that may or may not be real.

So even if you’re my age and having an online best friend seems crazy, for young people it’s real.

I want you to think about one thing, in 2022 the US Dept. of Justice released a report on call centers in India that did nothing but robocalls to scam Americans and others out of money. In fact, the IRS scam was one of these. If this was a thing, how long, if they aren’t already, until they start doing this to our young people? How long until they’re “dating” someone who asks for gifts, money, or to have one of their items purchased?

While to me this seems like a horrible idea in the first place for social reasons, think how long it will be until millions of dollars are being scammed.
